Wyoming National Guard troops could be deployed to Memorial Hospital in Rawlins if conditions warrant. As Bigfoot 99 reported on Wednesday, about 100 National Guard troops were deployed to 24 hospitals in 17 Wyoming cities to help ease the strain on healthcare workers due to an uptick in COVID-related admissions. MHCC reported that while they had requested help, no guard troops were deployed there. Renny McKay with Governor Mark Gordon’s office said in an email to Bigfoot 99 yesterday that the State prioritized locations based on where the strain to the healthcare system was the greatest. McKay said that “in comparison to other locations, Rawlins’ support requirements were lower on the list of priorities.” As Bigfoot 99 reported, MHCC was not indicating any COVID-related hospitalizations on Tuesday, the day the Guard was deployed. All of beds in the ICU, which the hospital in Rawlins uses as a COVID ward, were available. Yesterday, the state web site which tracks hospital capacity indicated that one of the six beds in the ICU here is occupied, and that five are available. For the second year in a row, Memorial Hospital in Rawlins is scrapping the annual health fair because of concerns about the Sars-COV-2 virus. The hospital will still offer discounted blood draws by appointment only. Cali O’Hare has the details.
