Human remains have been discovered near Battle Pass, according to the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office.

Yesterday morning, Sheriff Alex Bakken announced on social media that this past Saturday, May 31st, human remains were discovered near Battle Pass off Highway 70.

Speaking at Tuesday morning’s Board of Carbon County Commissioners meeting, Sheriff Bakken detailed the discovery and confirmed that the remains were human.

A backpack and several items of clothing were found with the remains.

Sheriff Bakken said that around Thanksgiving, Wyoming Department of Transportation plow drivers reported an abandoned vehicle near the junction of Forest Service Road 550 and Highway 70. Documents found with the remains indicated that the deceased was associated with that vehicle.

The sheriff told the board of commissioners his office will not release the identity of the person until the family has been notified.

Sheriff Bakken said foul play is not suspected.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office had no further updates on the incident.
