Kathy Beck is the newest member of the Saratoga Town Council.

At last night’s town council meeting, the empty chair left by the sudden departure of Ben Spaulding was finally filled. Beck’s nomination for the seat was accepted. She will serve out the remainder of Spaulding’s term; until the end of 2024.

Beck was the only person who had officially expressed interest in the position. The council discussed her appointment during several sessions, but they were unable to come to a consensus on how long the statutes say she would serve for.

The town’s attorney, Jane France, spoke with Carbon County Clerk Gwynn Bartlett  and Wyoming State Election Director Kai Schon to clarify the ordinance. Mayor Creed James asked France if she received a definitive answer about the length of Beck’s term.

Beck has been a resident of the Platte Valley for over 20 years. She is a former teacher and a member of the community choir. She is also on the Recreation Commission and Platte Valley Community Center Joint Powers Board. Beck says that she wants to make a positive difference.

There were no objections to Beck’s appointment. Councilwoman D’Ron Campbell made the motion to accept Beck’s nomination. Councilman Jon Nelson seconded and the council approved Beck as its newest member.

Mayor James officially swore Beck in to serve the remainder of Spaulding’s term.
