In Saratoga, about 100 kids have signed up for Little League this year. Councilman Ben Spaulding, who has spent much of the last couple of years organizing the league and establishing a place for the teams to play, told town council this week that the turnout has been great.

Work has been going on since last year to get Woods Field ready for the season that begins later this month. Spaulding said enormous amounts of improvements have been made thanks to volunteer efforts.

The Town of Saratoga entered into a long-term lease agreement with the George and Nellie Wood family for the use of the fields in exchange for improvements, including extending water service to the property to provide irrigation. Council had allocated about $25,000 for the fields. Private donations have pushed the effort across home plate. Councilman Spaulding extended gratitude to those have contributed.

Spaulding said the community-wide effort has been welcomed and appreciated. The first game of the season, Opening Day, is set for Saturday, May 21st.
