Mike Sherr is a veteran himself who served two separate stints in the U.S. Army, retiring in 1991 with the rank of Sgt. First Class. Vancine is the president of the American Legion Auxiliary in Medicine Bow. They celebrated their 21st wedding anniversary this week, on December 13. Volunteer committee member Mike O’Brien read a statement about the Sherrs that Mayor Terry Weickum wrote.

Mayor Weickum offered a personal note of gratitude.

The Community Builder Award is presented monthly to local businesses, individuals or organizations for their volunteer service, sponsorship, promotion of programs and events and for other contributions significant to the quality of life in Rawlins.

The award comes with a $100 check which the Sherrs donated to the local American Legion.

Standing at the podium, Vancine thanked the council and the volunteer committee and offered a parting piece of advice for residents of Rawlins.
