Election Day in Wyoming not only went smoothly Tuesday, it made history.

Cynthia Lummis becomes the first woman to be elected U.S. Senator from the state. She will replace Mike Enzi when he retires in January. Lummis beat Democrat Merav Ben David by nearly a 3-to-1 margin. Lummis garnered more than 150,000 votes to her challenger’s 55,760.

Incumbent Congresswoman Liz Cheney will serve another two years in the U.S. House. Cheney finished with 141,740 votes. Lynette Grey Bull, the Democrat from Fremont County, tallied 50,880 votes. The Libertarian and Constitutional candidates in U.S. House race, Richard Brubaker and Jeff Haggit, drew more than 13,000 votes between them.

The top of the ticket featured no big surprises. Donald Trump cruised to an early win over Joe Biden with 71.4 percent of the vote. The unofficial results indicate the president’s support dropped from 2016 when he picked up 174,000 votes. Trump’s total last night was just shy of 147,000 votes.

Carbon County and Rawlins City Council Results

Turnout was big here in Carbon County with nearly 300 more votes cast than were registered. Cali O’Hare begins our local coverage with results of the  county wide races and Rawlins City Council.

Other Municipal Results
(Saratoga, Riverside, Encampment, Hanna, Elk Mountain, Dixon, Medicine Bow and more)

In Carbon County’s smaller communities, several people who received the most votes during the primary were able to carry those numbers through the general election. Sinclair saw a turn with a candidate who didn’t file for the primary win a seat on the town council. Medicine Bow had no candidates run for two town council seats, but received a number of write-ins. Emma Diercks has those vote totals.
