The Never Forget Park: Saratoga Town Council approved a name change of the proposed park for Staff Sergeant Tyler Pickett, who was killed during combat operations in Iraq on June 8, 2008.

During discussions over the last decade, the memorial park was usually referred to as Tyler Pickett Park. Recently, it was referred to as Staff Sergeant Tyler Pickett Park. Town Councilman Ben Spaulding sits on the committee organizing the construction of the memorial. Spaulding told town council this week that the change was requested by the fallen soldier’s family.

The Never Forget Park in memory of Staff Sergeant Tyler Pickett will become the official name. Council voted to approve the name change unanimously. Meanwhile, momentum to build the park, which languished for many years under previous administrations, continues to build. So do donations. Mayor Creed James said a fundraising effort to build the memorial recently received a large gift.

Councilman Spaulding extended a personal thank you to Adam Clark and his family for their generous contribution, saying the gift made a lot people smile.

Staff Sergeant Tyler Pickett, a graduate of Saratoga High School, was 28 years old when he was killed by an improvised explosive device during military operations in the Kirkuk Province during Operation Iraqi Freedom. The Never Forget Park is slated to be built on town-owned land east of Veterans Island across the river channel.
