Schools closed after bacterial meningitis diagnosis

The North Schools in Carbon County are closed today for a medical emergency. HEM High School Principal Steven Priest notified Bigfoot 99 last night of the closure.

Priest said that because of a recent case of bacterial meningitis, classes will not be in session today so the schools will be cleaned and sanitized. Carbon County School District 2 Superintendent Jim Copeland said a Hanna Elementary School 4th grader was diagnosed with the illness and yesterday and life-flighted for medical care.

Officials said today’s off-day will be made up later in the school year. The closure includes all of the North Schools: Hanna, Elk Mountain and Medicine Bow.

Snow removal ordinance could be changing for downtown Saratoga businesses

The Saratoga Town Council passed the first reading of an amended ordinance on property maintenance. The changes allow for downtown business owners to push snow and ice off their curbs in lieu of the heated sidewalks not working. Emma Diercks reports.

City of Rawlins adds three new full-time positions

The City of Rawlins is adding three full-time positions to the payroll. The mayor and city council approved the move Tuesday evening. Cali O’Hare was at the meeting and filed this report.

 

 

Saratoga drinking water among nation’s top 10 best tasting

Saratoga is already a state champion for the best small-town drinking water in Wyoming. The town won the statewide award last year. Saratoga took its water game to the next level recently. The Public Works Department sent a representative to Washington D.C. to compete in this year’s National Great American Water Taste contest. Emma Diercks reports.

Medicine Bow Complex plans moving forward

County officials are preparing to take bids on the proposed Medicine Bow Complex. The goal is to have the first floor of the large, dual purpose building complete by November. Cali O’Hare has the latest.
