CCSD2 working to make Platte Valley schools safer

Carbon County School District Two plans to increase the security at Saratoga Elementary and Encampment schools. The board seeks bids for designs of new secure vestibules at those campuses. Emma Diercks has the story.

Update: Dollar Tree closed and space for lease in Rawlins

The Dollar Tree in Rawlins closed its doors for good earlier this month. The green letters that once promised low prices have been removed from the storefront and replaced with a poster-sized “For Lease” sign. Cali O’Hare has an update on the quiet closure.

 

 

Three fatalities on Carbon County roads this week

A Casper man died in a one-vehicle rollover north of Rawlins Tuesday morning. The Wyoming Highway Patrol reports that 34-year-old Kevin R. Brown was northbound on US 287 at milepost eight when his 2003 Suburban drifted off the shoulder and overturned. Brown was not wearing a seat belt and died at the scene.

The crash happened shortly before 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. Driving too fast for conditions is suspected as a contributing cause, WHP reported in a release. This is the 10th fatality on Wyoming’s highways in 2019, the third in Carbon County this week.

Fundraising continues for Saratoga Volunteer Fire Department gear

The Saratoga Volunteer Fire Department continues fundraising efforts for new bunker gear. The crew is also looking towards the future when fire trucks will also need to be replaced. Emma Diercks reports.

Rawlins airport advisory committee meets for first time

As officials move forward with developing a master plan for the Rawlins – Harvey Field Municipal Airport, stakeholders from various agencies have formed an advisory committee. The group met for the first time earlier this month. Cali O’Hare was at that meeting and filed this report.
