Barrasso reaction to Justice Kennedy retirement

Justice Anthony Kennedy, the pivot vote on the nation’s top court, will retire at the end of July. The announcement Wednesday sent political shockwaves through Washington. Conservatives rejoiced at the news. Liberals circled the wagons around past court decisions they worry may be overturned by a conservative court. Anthony’s departure from the U.S. Supreme Court opens the door to President Donald Trump naming a second nominee to the high court in two years. His predecessor had only one chance in eight years, and that nominee was derailed by the Republican Senate. Wyoming Senator John Barrasso told Bigfoot 99 Thursday that the president and the senate have “an historic opportunity.”

A fight is gearing up in Congress between The president and Republican leadership who have signaled they want the senate to vote on the nomination before the mid-term elections this fall, and Democrats who want to wait. Senator Barrasso said he is confident a vote will come in the fall. The Supreme Court convenes in October.
