For the second time in five years, a flood has occurred at the wastewater treatment plant in Rawlins.

The facility has not been able to operate for the last week as a result of the latest flood, and officials expect it won’t be back up and running for at least two months. Citizens are largely unaffected at this time.

Bigfoot 99’s Cali O’Hare has been in touch with city officials over the last week as they investigated the cause and evaluated the damage. Here’s her report.

The facility, which had the capability to process up to eight million gallons of wastewater a day, has been out of commission since a flood on January 23rd 2021. City officials anticipate it will take at least two months to bring the wastewater treatment plant back online. In the meantime, wastewater from the municipality is being directed to the municipal holding ponds. Citizens remain largely unaffected.
