CCSD2 forms committee to review land options

After one company dropped a plan to build temporary housing on school district property in Medicine Bow, another is pursuing a plan of its own.

The Board of Trustees of Carbon County School District Two has the option to lease or sell the land to accommodate wind energy development. A committee has been formed to look at the issue and make a recommendation. Emma Diercks reports.

Stats show substance abuse is a county-wide issue

Officials involved with the Alliance for Drug Endangered Children report that nearly every community in Carbon County has felt the impacts of substance abuse. More than half of the open cases with the Department of Family Services in the county are drug or alcohol related. Cali O’Hare has the story.

County commissioners approve PacifiCorp permit

Tuesday afternoon, the Carbon County Commissioners approved a conditional use permit for Rocky Mountain Power PacifiCorp to repower its Foote Creek Rim One Wind Energy Facility. The commissioners and PacifiCorp came to a compromise to decommission old turbine pads at 36 inches below the surface.

Smoke detectors installed for area residents free of charge

The American Red Cross and the Rawlins Fire Department have teamed up to install life saving smoke detectors in the homes of Carbon County residents, completely free of charge. There is still time to register your home as part of the upcoming Sound the Alarm campaign. Cali O’Hare has the details.
