Sixth penny tax passes in all but one precinct

The vote in Tuesday’s special election is now official. Carbon County Clerk Gwynn Bartlett reported that after canvassing the 1,637 ballots cast, the final tally remains unchanged.
With all 18 precincts counted, the one-penny specific purpose tax passed with 1,236 votes for and 398 against it. Voter turnout was 29 percent.
The precinct-by–precinct count shows that the measure failed only in the rural community of Leo, where one vote was cast for the measure and two against it. In Muddy Gap, the two votes there cancelled each other out, one for and one against the optional tax.
The measure passed everywhere else, garnering the widest margin of votes in Medicine Bow, with 89 percent of voters in favor. Clerk Bartlett said the tax should begin being collected on October First.

Saratoga officials continue work on Tyler Pickett Park
The Saratoga Town Council has resumed working to develop Tyler Pickett Park. Councilman Steve Wilcoxson, who is heading the initiative, hopes to have an irrigation system in place this summer. Emma Diercks reports.
Nonprofits request funding from Rawlins City Council
A dozen Rawlins nonprofit and ancillary organizations made their annual appeal to the city council for funding during a two-hour long work session Tuesday. The requests are a required under the budget process.
Several of the organizations, citing tight budgets and increasing costs, requested more funding than they’ve received in the past. Cali O’Hare was at the meeting and filed this report.
Officials revising Saratoga medical clinic lease
In Saratoga, the town council is working the operator of the Platte Valley Clinic, Health Management Services, to revise the company’s lease for the facility.
Both sides agree that HMS is not meeting the conditions in the contract, which was approved last October by the previous town council. Emma Diercks has the story.
