Big Boy derails in Rawlins
The Union Pacific’s Big Boy steam locomotive derailed as it pulled into Rawlins last week.
The locomotive was moving so slowly as it pulled into the yard, it remained upright and no one was injured when two wheels went off the track. Cali O’Hare has the latest on what happened.
Saratoga officials weigh proposal to demolish vacant buildings
The Town of Saratoga Planning Commission last week considered a proposal to turn an abandoned restaurant on Highway 130 into a business office.
The commission said a zone change would likely need to occur, but they want to see the project move forward. Emma Diercks has the story.
Rawlins officials to decide on urban deer culling tomorrow
Rawlins City Council tomorrow will be asked to move forward with thinning out the herd of urban mule deer who have worn out their welcome for many.
The advisory committe looking into the issue will present plan that would allow for the lethal removal of a set number of deer under Chapter 56 permit from Wyoming Game and Fish.
Council’s approval, if it comes, would be in the form of a resolution, not an ordinance. Cali O’Hare has more.

Saratoga officials discuss upcoming Shively Field projects
Saratoga’s airport engineer recently visited with the Saratoga Town Council to share plans for the terminal demolition project slated for this summer. He also provided updates on work coming in the near future. Emma Diercks has the story.
UW to name interim president
University of Wyoming trustees plan to choose an interim university president today.
The trustees will hold a teleconference meeting to vote on three candidates: Former state lawmaker and university lobbyist Chris Boswell, former university Vice President Bill Mai and former Temple University president Neil Theobald.
Trustees decided not to renew President Laurie Nichols’ contract when it expires June 30. The trustees have not provided any reason for not renewing her contract.
Sports: Track teams rake in 11 championships at state meets
It was a banner weekend for the track teams of the county as they won eleven individual championships at the state meet. Joey Saverine recaps the action.
