PCW wins extension approval
The Carbon County Planning and Zoning Commission yesterday approved a five year extension to the Power Company of Wyoming’s permit to begin operations at it proposed Chokecherry Sierra Madre wind energy plant.
The request now goes before the County Commissioners for final approval.
Model Ts roll through Rawlins
A fleet of century-old Model T cars are headed toward Rawlins today.
More than 30 members of the Model T Ford Club International are making the 2019 Ocean to Ocean Rerun.
The event recreates an endurance race in 1909 that pitted the Model T against four other automobiles of the time: the Stearns, Acme, Shawmut and Itala. The Model T Ford won the race after enduring heavy rains, streams, mud and snow on dirt roads.
Today, area residents will have a chance to see the classic Model T’s when they visit Rawlins. Cali O’Hare has the details.
Carbon County’s aging population could take toll on economy
The Cowboy State is getting grey, and good-paying jobs aren’t as plentiful as they used to be.
As Wyoming’s population ages, younger people are moving to where the jobs are. The trend in Carbon County is the same as across the state, and that could affect the economy. Emma Diercks reports.
Crews to begin work at Wick/Bueme wildlife area
If you’re looking for peace and quiet in the outdoors this month, you might want to avoid the usually serene Wick/Bueme Wildlife Habitat Management Area near Arlington.
The hills will be alive with the sounds of chainsaws and heavy equipment.
That’s the word from Wyoming Game and Fish. In a release yesterday, the state agency said crews will use chainsaws on the east and west sides of Forest Road 111, the Sand Lake Road to remove conifer trees.
The work is part of a habitat enhancement project. Mike Morris, a Game and Fish biologist for the Laramie region said the work is expected to be complete in early August. Morris cautions recreationists to avoid areas where work is underway.
