Carbon County braces for winter weather

The first snow storm of the season is shaping up to be a big one. In its latest update, National Weather Service said southern Wyoming can expect moderate to heavy snow Wednesday night through Friday morning.

Carbon County from Muddy Gap to Medicine Bow is under a Winter Storm Warning during that time frame. Meanwhile, Rawlins, Saratoga, Arlington and Laramie are under Winter Storm Watch.

Rob Cox with the weather service in Cheyenne said the storm’s worst impacts will be felt in Central Wyoming.

Despite being on the edge of the storm, communities on either side of I-80 in Carbon County could see anywhere from four to eight inches of snow by Friday.

Temperatures are expected to fall rapidly this evening with freezing rain changing to snow by midnight. Record cold is expected Friday morning with temperatures in the single digits and wind chills below zero. Temperatures should rebound back into the 50s by the weekend.
