Cold temps and snow hit Carbon County
A sprawling winter storm rolled into Wyoming Wednesday bringing cold temperatures and the first snow of the season. Heavy bands of snow fell at times overnight, but accumulations will be lighter than some forecasts called for earlier this week.
According to the latest outlook from the National Weather Service, Rawlins and Saratoga could see three to four inches of snow. As much as eight inches of snow is forecast for Arlington.
Rob Cox with the National Weather Service in Cheyenne told Bigfoot 99 yesterday that forecasters were hedging their bets on snowfall amounts for Carbon County.
Cox added that the storm will weaken over time with the heaviest bands of snow falling last night. Behind the snowfall, however, are cold temperatures with record lows expected Friday morning.
Rawlins crews shift from potholes to snowplows
In Rawlins: the storm forced street crews to switch from patching potholes to clearing roadways.
Cali O’Hare spoke with city officials yesterday morning as they prepared staff and equipment for the major weather change.
CCHEC seeking feedback with survey
In other news, the Carbon County Higher Education Center is looking for community feedback on the programs it offers.
The administration has released a survey, which asks residents what educational opportunities they would like to see. Emma Diercks reports.

Rawlins group highlights domestic violence issues
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. In Rawlins, organizations that work with victims want to shine a light on the issue with purple bulbs throughout the city. Cali O’Hare reports.
Saratoga rules against vacation rental permits
In Saratoga, the planning commission was asked Tuesday evening to address vacation rentals inside town limits.
The board decided that unless they receive complaints, those wanting to open their homes to tourists don’t need to file for any permits. Emma Diercks has more.
