Rawlins police rescue abused, neglected animals
In Rawlins: Two women are in custody after police recovered more than 30 abused, neglected and dead animals locked inside a U-Haul van.
The pair were traveling through the area and staying at a local motel after they were caught up in the prolonged closure of Interstate 80.
A witness reported the U-Haul, which had been parked at the motel for two days. Inside were cages full of dogs and cats. Not all of them were alive. Police say 13 were dead.
Animal control officers are scrambling to provide care for the survivors. Cali O’Hare has more.
Sale of Medicine Bow football field still up for debate
Carbon County School District Two board members are expected to continue discussions tonight about the sale of the old Medicine Bow High School football field to the town.
No vote is expected as the board continues to explore the idea. Emma Diercks has the story.
County explores ways to aid ranchers in winter
The winter’s been a harsh one for some local ranchers. A contractor for the County’s Road and Bridge Department recently spent 13 hours digging through snow drifts to help the Faddis Ranch north of Rawlins reach their cows along a BLM road.
As a result, the county’s interim emergency manager asked commissioners yesterday whether they could declare an emergency to receive support from the state or federal levels. Cali O’Hare has the story.
Saratoga, county officials lend support for Platte Valley hospital grant
Both the Carbon County Board of Commissioners and the Saratoga Town Council provided their support for a Wyoming Business Council grant to expand the water and sewer from town to the site of a proposed medical clinic.
The Saratoga Carbon County Impact Joint Powers Board agreed to sponsor the project on the behalf of the Platte Valley Healthcare Committee last week. Emma Diercks reports.
