A single-circuit, 230-kilovolt transmission line is proposed to go through Carbon County just north of Medicine Bow to the Boswell Springs substation near Rock River in Albany County. The project has received the stamp of approval from Carbon County’s Planning and Zoning Commission and will next go to the Board of Commissioners for final approval.

The proposed project is a 230-kilovolt line that follows the shortest route between the Boswell Springs substation in neighboring Albany County to Pacificorpo’s Freezeout Substation northeast of Medicine Bow in Carbon County, crossing a mix of privately and state-owned land. The transmission towers, not to exceed a total height of 150 feet, would be set back at least a quarter-mile from the perimeter of the occupied sage grouse leks outside the core area and at least 300 feet from the municipal boundary of the Town of Medicine Bow. The towers would be set back at least 50 feet from adjacent property boundaries within Cassidy River Ranch.
