The Grand Encampment Museum has received a national education award.

On September 1st, the Oregon-California Trails Association presented the Grand Encampment Museum with the OCTA Outstanding Educator Award.

Cathy Lynch, education coordinator at the GEM, is also being recognized by the OCTA for her work teaching children about life on the Oregon Trail. Lynch’s efforts make the West come alive for young people.

Director of the Grand Encampment Museum Tim Nicklas says that the OCTA has recognized both the museum and Lynch with their national award.

Founded in 1982, the Oregon-California Trails Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving trails and markers related to America’s westward expansion. Kathy Conway, the OCTA National Headquarters Manager, says that education is a big part of their mission.

Each year the Oregon-California Trail Association honors educators and institutions that offer programs uniquely designed to engage with young people. The award includes a $250 donation and a plaque.

The Outstanding Educator Award was presented to the Grand Encampment Museum at the Ramkota Hotel in Casper, Wyoming.
