The Wyoming Republican Party State Central Committee has advanced the names of three of its own to Governor Mark Gordon to serve as interim Secretary of State.

The committee did not choose anyone from outside its inner circle. GOP leadership on Saturday nominated Karl Allred, Marti Halverson and Bryan Miller. All are members of party’s central committee.

Governor Gordon will pick one of the nominees to serve from now until January and when former Secretary of State Ed Buchannan’s elected successor is sworn into office in January. Buchannan stepped down earlier this month to serve as a Goshen County Judge, an appointment also made by the governor.

The temporary term will span the General Election in November. One of the primary responsibilities of the job is overseeing state elections.

Allred serves as a Uinta County state committeeman. No stranger to the inner works of state politics in Cheyenne, Allred successfully sued Governor Matt Mead in 2017 over the Capitol reconstruction project and other state contracts.

Halverson, a former six-term state representative for House District 22, now serves as the president of Wyoming Right to Life and chair of the Lincoln County GOP.

Miller is chairman of the Sheridan County GOP.

Wyoming Republican party members had until Wednesday evening of last week to apply for the position. A total of 11 hopefuls submitted their names.

The central committee — which includes three Republican Party officials from Wyoming’s 23 counties — voted for the nominees at a public meeting Saturday in Pavillion.
