The Carbon County Sheriff’s Office is on the lookout for a trailer stolen from Saratoga.
Sometime between the evening of Wednesday, October 26th, and early morning of the 27th, a thief drove behind Bill Schroer’s garage at 1106 Bridge Ave and stole a trailer off the rear of his lot.
Schroer, a Saratoga school bus driver, said he left the school bus barn around 8:30 a.m. Located on South 13th Street, the bus barn has a clear view of Schroer’s garage. The bus driver said he was able to see that something wasn’t right.
Schroer called the police and reported the missing trailer. Sheriff’s Deputy John Moore responded and took pictures of tire tracks and footprints in the snow. The cut lock was also taken as evidence.
Schroer stores several trailers on his property. When asked why thieves would target that specific one, Schroer said he thinks it may have been the easiest to steal.
Other trailers in the neighborhood lack tongue locks, making them easier targets. Does that mean Bill Schroer’s property was specifically chosen? He doesn’t think so. Schroer said it was probably someone from out of town who needed a new trailer.
The trailer contained various car parts. Schroer said the total value of everything stolen was somewhere between $35,000 and $40,000.
If a local took the trailer they would have had to store it out of sight, like in a garage. Schroer said he hopes it wasn’t someone from Saratoga. With the constant influx of new residents, the bus driver is worried that our small-town vibe may be attracting the wrong sort of people.
The Saratoga Police Department and the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office are searching for the trailer. Schroer is confident that, if someone found his property, they would alert the police. Until then, Schroer said he won’t dwell on the subject.
Bigfoot 99 hasn’t received an official statement about the incident from the sheriff’s office.
A source said that Schroer’s trailer wasn’t the only one stolen that night, but multiple Saratoga police officers have denied that claim.
