The results of Tuesday’s General Election in Carbon County are official. The Canvass Board completed its work on Thursday. The results are posted to the county website.

Carbon County Clerk Gwynn Bartlett reports that the tallies are unchanged from the unofficial results.

Bartlett said the election ran smoothly at the polls and in the counting process. A recount was required in one race. Ellie Bennett and David Robinson tied for second place in the race for the four-year seat on the Sinclair Town Council. Bennett and Robinson each received 54 votes. Thursday’s recount by the Carbon County Canvass Board yielded the same result.

A tied race is rare, Bartlett told Bigfoot 99. The winner was chosen by casting lots. David Robinson was deemed the winner in the tie-breaker. Bartlett described the process.

The Canvass Board consisted of the same three people who reviewed and verified the results in the primary election.

As part of the process, the Canvass Board completed the post-election audit where the cast vote record was compared to the ballot image to prove the equipment accurately tallied the votes. There were no issues with this process and the outcome.
In a statement accompanying the release of the official results, Bartlett that 158 new registrations and 127 changes to existing registrations were processed at the polls on Tuesday. These are in addition to changes and new registrations that occurred before and during absentee voting. Changes could be name address or party.

According to the official results, 4,789 ballots were cast in the General Election here in Carbon County, up slightly from the 4,399 that were cast in the August Primary.

Voter turnout for the General was 81.7%.
