The deadly year on Interstate 80 continues. A Massachusetts man was killed and a Wyoming Highway Patrol trooper was injured Saturday afternoon on I-80 west of Laramie near the Quealy Dome exit.

According to a statement from the WHP, a Laramie trooper and a large tow truck were parked at mile marker 288 with emergency lights activated, investigating a prior crash involving a commercial vehicle.

A westbound Ford Transit van driven by a 79-year-old man from Nantucket, identified as Charles Cirigliano, slid out of control and crashed into the back of the tow truck. The unidentified trooper speaking with the tow truck driver at the time of the crash sustained minor injuries.

The out-of-state driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

This is the 16th fatality on Wyoming’s roadways in 2023 compared to four in 2022, 14 in 2021, and five in 2020.
