Luke Reiner has retired as Director of the Wyoming Department of Transportation.
Governor Mark Gordon made the announcement on Thursday.
The governor said in a written statement, “I would like to thank Director Reiner for his dedicated and consistent service and unwavering commitment to the State of Wyoming in capacities as WYDOT director and previously as the Adjutant General of the Wyoming military department.”
Reiner served as Wyoming’s adjutant general from February 2011 to March 2019, when Governor Gordon appointed the career military man the 18th director of WYDOT.
Reiner served as commander of Camp New York, Kuwait, during Operation Iraqi Freedom II and commanded the Wyoming Army National Guard’s 115th Fires Brigade. During his time in the military, Reiner was honored for his work various medals, including the Distinguished Service Medal, Legion of Merit, and the Meritorious Services Medal (with three Oak Leaf Clusters).
The state highway director oversees nearly 2,000 fulltime employees in 60 locations statewide, as well as about 7,000 miles of highway and 2,000 bridges. The director also has responsibility for the Wyoming Highway Patrol, Driver’s Services, Statewide emergency communications and aeronautic operations across the state.
State statute requires that the Wyoming Transportation Commission name three nominees to the governor for consideration as Director.
