The Rawlins Fire Department is hosting a city-wide marathon and community outreach event.

Tomorrow, May 20th, the Rawlins Fire Department is inviting everyone to attend their 3rd annual 5K race and community participation event at Fire Station #2. Fire Captain Hans Pedersen said the festivities will begin with the 5K run. Pederson said registration begins at 8am and the race starts at 9:00. The fire captain described the route the race will take.

Captain Pedersen said three locations will be set up around the course with obstacles for participants to overcome. The fire captain said the stations are manned by various community and state-run organizations.

Captain Pedersen said runners will participate in a series of fire fighter related challenges when they return to Fire Station #2. Pedersen said the physical tests consist of dragging a dummy and a mock door breach.

Captain Pedersen said the fire department will also host a free pancake breakfast at 8:00am. The fire captain said other activities will be available for those who may not want to participate in the 5K run.

Captain Pedersen said the Rawlins Fire Department has additional activities planned if the weather is nice. The fire captain said the event will be a way for everyone to see what Carbon County’s first responders do.

Captain Pedersen said every piece of equipment and vehicle the fire department uses will be available for people to see and touch. Regrettably, the fire captain says you won’t be able to take a joy ride in a fire truck.

Captain Pedersen said the 5K run doesn’t have to be a competition. The fire captain said people of all skill levels are invited to participate.

The Rawlins Fire Department’s 5K Run is tomorrow, May 20th. The event starts at 8am and is expected to continue until 11:00 or 11:30 in the afternoon. Participation in the race costs $30 a person on the day or $20 if you pre-register. Captain Pedersen said to call Fire Station #1 at 307-328-4596 with any questions or to pre-register for the 5K run.
