Flowing water closed the road heading into the Snowy Range for a brief time earlier this week. WYDOT crews responded and reopened he road after the short closure.
Around 8:00pm on Tuesday evening, the Wyoming Department of Transportation was alerted to a flooded section of Highway 130 between milepost 47 and 57. WYDOT Public Relations Specialist Andrea Staley said road crews are working to repair the flood damaged section of road.
Staley said the road was reopened less than two hours later.
Every year WYDOT plow crews work to open the Snowy Range and Battle Mountain passes by Memorial Day weekend. Both roadways were cleared by last Thursday. With the scenic drives open, WYDOT crews are focused on road maintenance and cleanup elsewhere in the state. Staley said when it comes to the state’s roads, no news is good news.
Tuesday night’s brief road closure is a reminder that flooding is still an issue through the weekend as people venture outdoors. The National Weather Service forecast model shows that that the North Platte River at Saratoga is expected to rise beginning today, and reaching a peak around 7.9 feet on Saturday, before falling back below “action” stage early next week.
