The Carbon County Stampede Rodeo needs volunteers. The Carbon County Fair runs from July 24th through August 14th. The theme for the 97th annual fair is “Grow it. Sew it. Show it.”

One of the most anticipated events during the fair is the county’s Stampede Rodeo. It promises to be bigger than ever and event organizers are asking for volunteers to help put on the show. Stampede Rodeo Committee member Travis Blaylock said volunteers handle most jobs during the competition.

Blaylock said for the first time, ever, the Stampede Rodeo has contracted with the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association, or PRCA.

He said having the largest rodeo organization in the world sanction the event should attract a larger variety of contestants.

Having the PRCA involved means the event must conform to the sanctioning body’s rules. Every official must be certified by the rodeo organization.

Blaylock said aside from paying the PRCA for the honor of hosting the event, the rodeo must adhere to certain advertising stipulations. For instance, companies affiliated with the rodeo organization must be given preference on sponsorship opportunities.

Blaylock said the PRCA also dictates what attire participants may wear during the event. He said traditional western clothing is mandatory for everyone associated with the rodeo.

Blaylock said if the PRCA collaboration produces a noticeable increase in rodeo attendance, the Stampede Rodeo Committee will continue to partner with the organization.

The Carbon County Stampede Rodeo is August 2nd at the Carbon County Fair Grounds, 12 Daley Street in Rawlins. To volunteer for the event, contact Travis Blaylock at 307-321-9108.

Blaylock said potential volunteers may also contact one of the other Stampede Rodeo Committee members. Call Cody Waldrip at 321-5187, J Stratton at 321-3943, or Hadley Berger at 329-8552 for more information.
