The Saratoga Police Department has hired a long-time sheriff’s deputy.
As reported by Bigfoot99, on Tuesday afternoon, the Saratoga town council held a special meeting to approve the Royal Springs subdivision south of town. After giving the new neighborhood the thumbs up, the council moved on to the next order of business. Police Chief Mike Morris asked the council to approve the hiring of a new officer. Chief Morris said he had four full-time and three part-time officers to cover the town. The chief said he needed one more full-time employee to have a full staff. Chief Morris asked the council to allow him to hire Carbon County Sheriff’s Deputy Sergeant John Moore.
Chief Morris said Moore lives in Saratoga. The police chief said he was prepared to offer Moore a $60,000 yearly salary. Chief Morris said because of Moore’s 17 years of Carbon County law enforcement experience, he would start as a Lieutenant in the Saratoga PD.
Mayor Chuck Davis said the money to hire another police officer has been set aside for at least three years. Mayor Davis asked the council for comments. Hearing none, the mayor asked the public for their input. A resident said she thought Moore would make a great addition to the town’s police force. With that, Mayor Davis asked for a motion to approve the new hire. Councilman Mike Cooley motioned and Councilwoman Kathy Beck, attending the meeting virtually, seconded. The motion was approved.
Yesterday morning, Chief Morris told Bigfoot99 that Officer Moore was scheduled to begin his first shift as a member of the Saratoga Police Department this Tuesday.
