When it comes to a lost dog, hope never fades. A Saratoga man found his lost dog after four days of searching.
Albert Dickenson was reunited with his 3-year-old English Setter, Grumpy, after the dog was lost last week. Dickenson said he and Grumpy were picking berries about eight miles up Blackhall Mountain Road, south of Riverside, when the dog took off into the wilderness. Dickenson said he left some personal items and a shelter to attract the dog. After four days and six hours, Dickenson and Grumpy were reunited.
Dickenson said he returned multiple times to the area where Grumpy went missing. When he couldn’t search, Dickenson said he had a family friend spend time at the location to create a familiar scent for Grumpy to follow.
Dickenson said he checked animal shelters across the area hoping someone had found Grumpy and turned him in. While still searching, Dickenson said the Humane Society of Walden, told him the story of an animal surviving alone in the mountains for months.
On the fourth day, Dickenson said he found finally found his dog near the area where he left his shirt and tent. Dickenson said Grumpy was surprisingly unharmed despite dangerous animals inhabiting the area.
Dickenson said while Grumpy did not appear hurt during his ordeal, the dog was covered in spiny seeds from plants such as sand burrs. The dog owner said it took days of brushing and cleaning to remove the seed pods from Grumpy’s ears and coat.

Grumpy appeared happy and curious during his visit to Bigfoot 99 on Monday. Dickenson said he’s had Grumpy since he was born.
