Saratoga has a new town clerk.
Jennifer Anderson, a former dispatcher for the Saratoga Police Department, has been hired to be the new Saratoga town clerk.
As reported by Bigfoot99, former Town Clerk Marie Christen resigned during the June 20th Saratoga town council meeting. Christen said her last day would be July 14th.
The town was unable to find a new town clerk before July 14th. Christen opted to remain with the town as a part-time clerk until a replacement could be found.
During Tuesday night’s Saratoga town council meeting, Mayor Chuck Davis announced Anderson’s appointment as town clerk. Mayor Davis said Anderson was chosen by an independent hiring committee.
The hiring process was unexpectedly difficult.
Mayor Davis said he created the interview board after three applicants for the open town clerk position failed to show for in-person interviews. The mayor said two applicants declined their interviews on short notice. Mayor Davis said the third applicant stopped responding to his phone calls.
Anderson was a full-time communications officer for the Saratoga Police Department before being hired as town clerk. To prepare for the job, Mayor Davis said Anderson will work with former town clerk Christen for a week and learn from her years of experience.
Councilwoman Kathy Beck asked if Anderson was scheduled for training through the Wyoming Association of Municipalities Clerks and Treasurers, otherwise known as WAMCAT. Mayor Davis said he was waiting for a date for WAMCAT and Caselle training classes.
Caselle is the computer software program used by Saratoga, and other municipalities across the country, to manage town finances.
Mayor Davis asked for a motion to appoint Jennifer Anderson as town clerk with an annual salary of $50,000. Councilwoman Beck made the motion and Councilman Jerry Fluty seconded. Every member of the Saratoga town council voted to hire Anderson.
Following the vote, Anderson was sworn in as town clerk.
