The Saratoga town council declared this week as National Apprenticeship Week.
During last Tuesday’s town council meeting, Saratoga Mayor Chuck Davis declared the week of November 13th through the 19th as National Apprenticeship Week.
Reading from the official proclamation, Town Clerk Jennifer Anderson said Saratoga recognizes the importance of learning a trade through on-the-job experience.
National Apprenticeship Week was established in 2014 by the US Department of Labor. This year’s theme is Registered Apprenticeship: Superhighway to Good Jobs. According to the NAW website, this year’s proclamation will reflect the prominence that Registered Apprenticeship has received as a proven and industry-driven training model that expedites the pathway into good jobs and improves diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility in the workplace.
Town Clerk Anderson, continuing to read from the proclamation, said apprenticeship helps marginalized people find well-paying jobs.
US Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh said, “National Apprenticeship Week reminds Americans of the tremendous benefits that Registered Apprenticeships provide to workers and employers. A long-honored approach to educating workers and preparing them for stable careers, today’s Registered Apprenticeships are being revitalized here in the U.S. as a proven strategy that equips workers – especially women and other underrepresented and underserved communities – with marketable skills sought in high-demand industries.”
Reading from the proclamation, Clerk Anderson said apprenticeship helps prepare workers for careers in our changing economy.
After Anderson finished reading the proclamation, Mayor Davis asked the council for a motion to declare this National Apprenticeship Week. Councilman Mike Cooley made the motion. Councilman Jacob Fluty seconded. The motion passed.
Mayor Davis declared November 13th through November 19th as National Apprenticeship Week in Saratoga.
