In Hanna, the town council town council is debating on how to use this year’s Wyoming Community Gas grant.
Every year, Wyoming Community Gas distributes a portion of its profits to participating municipalities. The money is to be used for projects that benefit the community.
During the November 14th Hanna town council meeting, Mayor Jon Ostling asked to use the $4,077.04 Wyoming Community Gas grant for a new sign and landscaping at the town hall.
Town Clerk Vivian Gonzales said the council approved the purchase of the new sign and landscaping during a previous meeting. The town clerk said this year’s Wyoming Community Gas grant can go toward funding the town hall beautification project.
The new town hall sign will be carved into a large stone like the signs that welcome visitors to Hanna. Mayor Ostling said the final cost of the sign and landscaping will be approximately $6,500.
A resident suggested using the Wyoming Community Gas grant to pave the access road to the town dump. The resident said deer will simply eat any flowers planted outside town hall. The council said they have yet to make a final decision about how to spend the gas grant money.
Later in the November 14th meeting, during citizen’s participation, Hanna Resident Chris Karns asked the town to donate a portion of the gas grant to the community garden club, HART, or Hanna Agricultural Resource Team.
Clerk Gonzales said the town is not legally permitted to donate the Wyoming Community Gas to an outside entity. Gonzales suggested Karns petition the gas company directly.
The council has until December 31st to decide how to spend the $4,077.04 Wyoming Community Gas grant. The decision was tabled until the next Hanna town council meeting on December 12th.
