In the Town of Medicine Bow, the newly reformed Recreation Board requested money for Christmas decorations from the town council. The council members offered to donate supplies and money instead.

This past September, Old West Bar owner Kristy Wickizer and three other Medicine Bow residents offered to restore the town’s recreation board. The Medicine Bow town council approved Wickizer’s request. Wickizer said the recreation committee’s first order of business would be to plan a Halloween party and haunted house.

During the November 13th, Medicine Bow town council meeting, Wickizer said the committee received a lot of positive feedback about its Halloween events. Next up is Christmas, said Wickizer. The recreation committee member asked the town to purchase new Christmas decorations.

Wickizer requested $500 to buy decorations. Councilwoman Sharon Kahl offered to donate her unused artificial Christmas tree and ornaments. Councilwoman Kahl said the town should pay for Christmas lights.

Wickizer said the recreation committee has money from donations that could be used to pay for the Christmas decorations. However, Wickizer said the rec board wouldn’t have anything left for other events.

Instead of taking $500 out of the town’s budget, Mayor Bradley Buum offered to donate the entire amount himself. Councilman Justin George said he would split the total with Mayor Buum, offering $250. The mayor agreed.

Wickizer said she will put out jars around town to collect additional donations so the Medicine Bow Recreation Board can purchase more holiday decorations.
