The Wyoming Cowboys basketball team is on the road tonight in a huge conference matchup in San Diego. The Pokes are coming off a complete game Saturday and maybe their most explosive win of the season.

Wyoming defeated Nevada 98-93 at home in Laramie.

Senior guard Sam Griffin put up 26 points. Akuek Kot added 20 in a offensive explosion win that had the Pokes playing at full tilt in both halves.

Head Coach Jeff Linder said Griffin’s performance was a huge step forward.

Tonight’s game is the 92nd meeting between Wyoming and San Diego and the only matchup between the two teams in this year’s regular season. The Aztecs own a 52-41 advantage in the series. Although the bean counters at Wyoming say the series is 41-50 and dates back to 1979. In the Mountain West era, SDSU owns a 32-17 lead in the series, including an 18-5 mark at Viejas Arena.

The Aztecs are probably happy to be back at home. San Diego is coming off a one-point, 67-66 loss to Boise State in Idaho on Saturday.

Aztecs head coach Brian Dutcher blamed the loss on not getting the stops needed to close the game. The Aztecs were led by Jaedon LeDee, who had 13 points, and Reese Waters with 10. LeDee and Waters are San Diego State’s leading scorers, so we’ll see a lot of both tonight.

Tip is set for 7 p.m. in the televised matchup. Kevin McKinney and Keith Kelly will have the call here on bigfoot 99 beginning with the pregame show at 6:30.
