Wyoming’s first lady recognized the dedication and hard work of a Rawlins food bank volunteer.
Rawlins Shoppers Choice Food Bank volunteer Barbara Clark received a plaque from First Lady Jennie Gordon recently in recognition of her commitment to ending hunger in Wyoming.
The Rawlins food bank is the most recent facility opened by WYO Help to distribute food to needy residents. WYO Help Executive Director Kyle Borger said his organization works with counties across the state to help the needy.
Last July, WYO Help opened a its first food bank in Rawlins. Borger explained that new food bank is set up like a grocery store. The WYO Help executive director said instead of getting a prepackaged box of food, people visiting the Rawlins food bank can choose the items they need.
Borger said in 2019, First Lady Gordon started the Wyoming Hunger Initiative to combat hunger in Wyoming. Borger said WYO Help assists the first lady in achieving her goal. The WYO Help executive director said First Lady Gordon recognized Rawlins volunteer Barbara Clark for her efforts.
Borger said Clark was one of the first people to volunteer when the Rawlins food bank opened last summer. Borger said Clark consistently goes above and beyond to assist WYO Help carry out First Lady Gordon’s vision.
Borger said in 2024, WYO Help will begin opening family resource centers across Wyoming. The WYO Help executive director said the resource centers will work with residents and county officials to better serve the specific needs of the people of each county.
Borger said WYO Help relies on volunteers and donations to keep feeding the hungry in Wyoming. The executive director said to call WYO Help or visit their website if you are interested in contributing your time or money.
Clark wasn’t the only WYO Help volunteer the first lady recognized last week. Torrington food bank volunteer David Breedan also received a plaque from First Lady Gordon for his commitment to ending hunger.
