In Washington, D.C., Wyoming Congresswoman Harriet Hageman expressed her support for Wednesday’s vote in the House Committee on Homeland Security to move forward with articles of impeachment against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
The committee voted along party lines Wednesday to send articles of impeachment against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to a vote in the full House of Representatives.
The articles of impeachment are based on the secretary’s willful and systemic refusal to comply with the law and breach of public trust—violations the committee said meet the bar of “high crimes and misdemeanors.”
Wyoming Representative Hageman said in a statement, “Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has violated his oath of office by willfully failing to secure our borders. He has lied to Congress each and every time he has been before us – claiming that the border is secure when now even his border invasion accomplice, Joe Biden, admits there is a crisis.”
Current estimates put the number of illegals crossing into the United States since Joe Biden took over the White House on January 21, 2021 at 8.3 million.
The rare impeachment resolution charges Mayorkas with failing to properly enforce the nation’s immigration law and breaching public trust amid the surge of illegal immigration since he was appointed by President Biden to his position.
Republicans launched their investigation into Mayorkas last June, claiming that he made false statements to Congress, obstructed congressional oversight of the Department of Homeland Security and implemented insufficient border policies.
Liberal news outlets slammed such as The New York Times and the Atlantic slammed yesterday’s impeachment vote.
House Majority Whip Tom Emmer of Minesota said the “facts speak for themselves.”
GOP Rep. Mark Green of Tennessee, the committee’s chairman, said the panel had “exhausted all other options” to hold Mayorkas accountable for defying laws passed by Congress.
House Democrats characterized the impeachment effort as a “sham” and said the articles lack evidence of high crimes or misdemeanors — the constitutional basis for impeachment.
Debate and votes on the articles of impeachment are expected next week.
Rep. Hageman said in a statement, “I look forward to voting for the impeachment of Biden’s failed henchman, Alejandro Mayorkas.”
