The Wyoming Cowboys dropped their second straight conference game last night to New Mexico. 91-73 was the score in a game that looked bad from the start.
Wyoming is now 12-and-11 overall, 5-5 in the Mountain West. Wyoming’s first conference loss at home comes at the hands of a Top 25 Lobos team that is 19-4 overall, 7-3 in conference.
The Cowboys struggled from the start, getting down nine points. Wyoming made a run and tied up the game in the early goings. The Lobos then built a 24-18 lead before going on a 13-point run midway through the first half maintained the lead the rest of the way.
Wyoming dug a hole for themselves early, shooting just 28 percent in the first half. Their shooting improved in the second half to 51 percent, but the damage was done, and the Lobos maintained their distance.
Head Coach Jeff Linder said his team did not fight like the underdogs they are in the Mountain West, especially in transitions.
The Cowboys will be in practice on Thursday, but they have the weekend off. Wyoming will return to action on Valentines Day against Utah State inside the Arena Auditorium.
