The Hanna Elk Mountain Medicine Bow High School is hosting a macaroni and cheese competition to benefit the school’s band and choir.

On Tuesday, March 5th, bring your best mac and cheese dish to compete in the Second Annual S’MacDown at HEM High School. Carbon County School District Two Music Teacher Kit Felton said last year’s macaroni and cheese contest turned out to be a great fundraising event for the school’s band and choir program. Felton said she anticipates another good turnout this year.

Felton said around 11 people submitted their cheesy noodle creations into last year’s competition. She said Hanna resident Alli Madsen took home the first-place prize: a restaurant gift card.

Felton explained the rules of next Tuesday’s competition. The HEM music teacher said she hasn’t decided on prizes yet, but winners are likely to once again receive gift cards to Carbon County restaurants.

Felton said a $10 entry fee is required to enter the competition. She said contestants must have their mac and cheese dishes at the HEM school by 4:30pm on Tuesday, March 5th. One hour later, judging will commence. Felton said after the judges make their decisions, the public is invited for a mac and cheese dinner. The music teacher said S’MacDown participants will eat for free.

Felton said money raised during the macaroni and cheese competition supports the school’s band and choir programs. Felton said the fundraiser ensures students can attend music related field trips.

The Second Annual HEM High School S’MacDown macaroni and cheese competition is this Tuesday, March 4th. Entry is $10 a person. All dishes must be dropped off at the school by 4:30pm.

Judging begins at 5:30pm. Winners must be present to receive their awards.

The public dinner starts at 6:00pm. Entry is $5 a person or $20 for a family. Contestants eat for free.

Entry forms can be obtained at the HEM High School, Hanna Elementary School, and Hanna Hometown Market. Felton said you can also email her at kfelton@crb2.org to receive an entry form.

The deadline to enter the macaroni and cheese cookoff is this Friday. However, Felton said the date can be pushed back if necessary.
