Memorial Hospital of Carbon County has hired a new chief financial officer.
Next week, former Langdon Prairie Health chief financial officer Margaret Fontana will be arriving in Rawlins to work at MHCC.
Since May of last year, Memorial Hospital of Carbon County has been operating with a series of interim chief financial officers, or CFOs. Not long after Rex Walk was named Chief Executive Officer of the hospital, Wayne Colson was brought on board as interim CFO. Following Colson’s departure late last year, Scott Miller, from Ovation Healthcare, became MHCC’s next acting chief financial officer.
At the February 20th Board of Carbon County Commissioners meeting, MHCC Director of Strategic Operations Stephanie Hinkle told the board that Margaret Fontana, from North Dakota, will be joining the hospital in the first week of March. Hinkley said Interim CFO Miller has done a great job organizing the hospital’s finances. However, MHCC will benefit from having an in-house CFO, said the director of strategic operations.
Hinkle said Fontana worked as chief financial officer for the rural clinic Langdon Prairie Health in Cavalier County, North Dakota. Hinkle mentioned that a recent snowstorm did not prevent Fontana from embracing Rawlins.
Hinkle said moving to Rawlins was a requirement of Fontana taking the CFO position.
The hospital strategic operations director said Fontana is well qualified to take over MHCC’s accounting department. Hinkle told the board that the new CFO will ensure the hospital’s finances are properly handled.
Chief Executive Officer Rex Walk said Fontana has two hard-to-obtain financial certifications that no other Memorial Hospital of Carbon County CFO has had. CEO Walk said Fontana will benefit the hospital and the city of Rawlins both.
Commissioner John Johnson asked if Fontana would be taking the place of Interim CFO Scott Miller. Strategic Director Hinkle said Miller will remain at MHCC for a month to train Fontana. Afterwards, Hinkle said Miller will move to another Ovation Healthcare managed hospital.
Hinkle and Walk said they were excited to have Fontana join the Memorial Hospital of Carbon County staff.
