Saratoga has reached out to the state’s water-planning agency for guidance on where to construct a new water tank.
Last July, the Saratoga Carbon County Impact Joint Powers Board hired Michigan-based contractors, Iseler Demolition, to bring down the failing water tower on the south side of town. The decision to demolish the structure came in 2021 when, after decades of leaking, the federal Environmental Protection Agency demanded the town tear down the 21-year-old water tank. The town is now tasked with constructing a replacement water tower.
During the March 5th Saratoga town council meeting, Public Works Director Emery Penner said the next phase of the water tower replacement project is determining where the tank should be built. After that, the town will be one step closer to construction, said Penner.
Penner requested the town council approve a resolution asking the Wyoming Water Development Commission to perform the feasibility study. The public works director said Saratoga is more likely to find outside funding sources with the state agency’s assistance.
Penner said he already submitted the level two feasibility study application to the Wyoming Water Development Commission. The public works director said he needed to send the signed resolution as well.
Treasurer Corina Daley read Resolution 2024-01: a resolution in support of filing an application to the Wyoming Water Development Commission for a level two feasibility study evaluating the town’s water system including treater water storage facilities, furthermore, establishing purpose and need for funding for future improvements to the water system.
The council unanimously voted to have Mayor Chuck Davis sign the resolution supporting Penner’s request for support from the Wyoming Water Development Commission.
