The City of Rawlins announced Thursday afternoon no irrigation or other water restrictions are in place at this time.
In a news release, the city announced that water is expected this spring and through early summer to allow for sod or seed, plentiful watering for trees and shrubs, and other water activities.
The release from city officials notes that potential restrictions will be reevaluated each week as conditions may change throughout the summer months. Adjustments to the plan will be made according to changing conditions.
As of now, Rawlins is enjoying increased flows from the Sage Creek pipeline. A new PVC pipeline was installed in 2022, replacing the old wood stave line from the early 20th century.
As of yesterday, the city’s web site shows that the high pressure tanks are 100% full while the low pressure tanks for the city are at 79%.
The news release from the city also included useful information from the University of Wyoming Extension Office for watering your lawn.
According to the information, watering of lawns should occur in two to three irrigations per week. Enough water should be provided so that the water can soak into the ground. Shallow, frequent irrigations will encourage shallow root growth and weaken lawn health.
The Extension Office has many resources to offer scientific advice on lawn health, landscape design, and more.
But for now, in the middle of May, Rawlins is starting to green up as we head into the final weeks of spring.
