Few details have been made available by city officials in Rawlins about a major fire in an industrial section of the city Saturday night.
The wildland fire produced a large column of black smoke that winds pushed south across Cedar Streets starting around 7:30 Saturday evening. The fire appears to have started in a lot near Rodeo Court, burning outbuildings and abandoned vehicles located there.
High winds blew the flames south across Cedar Street, past the two car dealerships located there. The spot fire south of Cedar was extinguished quickly.
According to a post from the Rawlins Police Department, crews established a perimeter around the fire by 10 p.m. on Saturday night. Crews remained on the scene throughout the night controlling hot spots.
According to the statement from the RPD, one firefighter sustained a minor injury. No civilians were harmed.
The cause of the fire has not been determined.
A number of departments responded to the incident, including Bureau of Land Management Fire, as well as crews from Carbon County, Sinclair Refinery and the Towns of Elk Mountain, Sinclair, and Wamsutter.
Power, which was cut to the affected area during the fire, was restored.
No primary structures were impacted by the fire.
