Having defied an assassin’s bullet five day earlier in Butler, Pennsylvania, former President Donald Trump stood in Milwaukee Thursday night and accepted the Republican Party’s nomination for President.
Trump spoke to the nation for the first time Thursday night since the attempt on his life, telling the party faithful that he came to deliver a message “of confidence, strength and hope.” He then described in chilling detail what happened during his speech in Butler on Saturday.
During his appearances this week at the convention, Trump has worn a large white bandage over his right ear. Last night, he spoke for the first time to a national television audience about the failed attempt on his life. The former president said even though bullets were flying all around, he felt protected by the Secret Service agents who had rushed the stage and covered him until the shooting ended with the sniper dead.
On the stage with Trump was the helmet and fire-fighting uniform of Corey Compatore who was killed at the rally as he used his body to shield his wife and daughters.
Trump went on to talk about the key issues Americans are facing in this year’s election, including illegal immigration, inflation and ending the conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East.
Democrat party strategists described the speech as awful. Meanwhile, President Biden is quarantined in the White House, presumably with COVID, even though he has made dogmatic speeches about Americans needing to be vaccinated and boosted to avoid contracting the virus. The president may be staying out of sight for political reasons.
Before Trump’s speech last night, Newsmax reported in a scoop that Bidden would declare this weekend that he’s stepping down from the race and will not endorse Vice President Kamala Harris so party officials can ride herd on the selection process.
