The City of Rawlins is preparing for the 2024 National Night Out.

Next Tuesday, August 6th, is the 41st annual National Night Out. During the July 16th Rawlins city council meeting, Mayor Terry Weickum read a proclamation declaring the city’s intention to participate in the nation-wide event. Mayor Weickum explained that the National Night Out is a way to foster cooperation and trust between residents and law enforcement.

Mayor Weickum continued to read the proclamation. The mayor said National Night Out is used to educate residents about the importance of crime prevention.

Mayor Weickum declared August 6th as National Night Out. The mayor asked residents to join the Rawlins Police Department and National Association of Town Watch in supporting the safety program.

Rawlins Police Chief Mike Ward said National Night Out is an important community engagement event. Chief Ward invited everyone to join local law enforcement and first responders at Bolton Park in Rawlins.

Police Chief Ward said he expects representatives from state and local law enforcement and emergency services to attend next week’s National Night Out. Food and live music will also be offered during the event.

National Night Out was created in 1984 by Philadelphia resident Matt Peskin to promote partnerships between police and the community. Since that time, the event has grown to include over 37 million people in 16,000 communities across the U.S.

The 41st annual National Night Out is next Tuesday, August 6th, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at Bolton Park, located at 110 East Davis Street in Rawlins.
