A Rawlins photographer has been selected to take part in a competitive regional art exhibit.

When he isn’t working for the Carbon County Library, Robert Fleetwood is taking photographs of the area in and around Rawlins. Fleetwood said he became interested in photography five years ago after discovering he possessed a talent for taking pictures.

Fleetwood said he is inspired by people like New Mexico photographer Lonnie J Anderson. Fleetwood said he is drawn to artists who focus on what is happening in their immediate areas.

Fleetwood said his photographs cover a large range of subjects. The photographer said he simply takes pictures of things that appeal to him.

Fleetwood said his photography teacher in Rock Springs encouraged him to apply for the 2024 Regional Photography Biennial. Gallery 1516 is a non-profit art gallery located in Omaha, Nebraska. Every year, Gallery 1516 hosts an art competition featuring artists from Nebraska and surrounding states.  The regional photography competition invites artists of various mediums, such as painting, sculpture, and photography, to compete for cash prizes, exhibition opportunities, and awards for excellence. The winners have their work prominently displayed in the gallery, providing significant exposure to a wider audience and potential buyers.

Fleetwood described the photograph he submitted to the exhibition.

The 2024 Regional Photography Biennial art exhibition runs from October 4th through December 15th. To raise money to attend the event in Omaha, Nebraska, Fleetwood is selling his photographs on redbubble.com.

Fleetwood is also offering to take photographs for high school seniors. For $100 to $150, parents will receive 12 professionally edited pictures of their students.

Fleetwood says his goal is to draw national attention to Carbon County photography.
