The City of Rawlins has donated a fire truck to the Saratoga Fire Department. The town is also waiting for another truck, this one purchased from Rock Springs, to arrive.
On August 6th, the Rawlins city council voted to gift an unneeded 26-year-old fire truck to the Saratoga Fire Department. During the August 20th Saratoga town council meeting, Mayor Chuck Davis announced that the truck has arrived. Mayor Davis said the town’s firefighters are pleased with their newest acquisition.
On August 6th, Assistant Fire Chief Tom Westring informed the Saratoga town council that the Rock Springs Fire Department offered the town a chance to purchase a 24-year-old ladder truck for $5,000. At the time, the council members were surprised by the low cost of the truck. After being assured by Assistant Chief Westring that the deal was legitimate, the council unanimously voted to purchase the truck.
During the August 20th Saratoga town council meeting, Mayor Davis said the former Rock Springs fire truck is undergoing minor maintenance work. The mayor said the truck should arrive in town soon.
Mayor Davis reported that the fire department is considering selling a partially operational truck. The mayor said he expects to hear a decision about the truck at a future town council meeting.
During the August 6th discussion, Assistant Fire Chief Westring mentioned that the new trucks are likely to improve Saratoga’s Insurance Services Office, or ISO, rating. A low ISO rating indicates that the town has strong fire protection, which can lead to lower home insurance premiums for residents.
