Fearing their town was the target of a scam, the governing body of Medicine Bow decided not to advertise the town on local high school shirts.
During the September 9th Medicine Bow town council meeting, Town Clerk and Treasurer Karen Heath said the previous town council voted to advertise on the jerseys of Hanna Elk Mountain Medicine Bow High School students. Heath said the town paid nearly $1,600 to have its logo printed on the shirts for one school year.
Councilwoman Crystal Mayfield mentioned that her daughter plays sports for HEM High School, and she has never seen the Medicine Bow town logo on any of the team’s shirts.
Clerk Treasurer Heath said the company, On Time Sports, provided the town with a sample shirt featuring Medicine Bow’s logo. Councilwoman Mayfield advised not to contract with an outside company for future advertising opportunities with HEM High School.
Councilman Trevor Strauch said in the past, the town advertised with HEM High School. Councilwoman Mayfield suggested finding another way to financially assist the school.
Medicine Bow councilwoman Kristi Wickizer asked what the town was advertising at the Hanna school. Clerk Treasurer Heath responded that they were advertising the town itself, a concept the clerk admitted to opposing.
A member of the audience said the advertising company may be completely unrelated to the Carbon County School District. Mayor Justin George agreed with the audience member’s hypothesis.
Medicine Bow Health Clinic Office Manager Casey Winter said the same company contacted the medical facility about advertising on HEM sports jerseys.
Despite having an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau, On Time Sports has received 26 customer complaints over the past year. Many of the customers mention that they received unsolicited requests from On Time Sports to advertise with a local high school despite the school allegedly having no knowledge of any agreement.
In their responses, On Time Sports maintains that it does have contracts with local schools, stating “We take great pride in being a company that never works out of contract.”
HEM High School Principal Eli Hobbs confirmed with Bigfoot99 that the school does contract with On Time Sports for students’ shirts. Principal Hobbs provided Bigfoot99 reporter Matt Copeland with a picture of a sample shirt showing the Medicine Bow town logo.
Back at the September 9th Medicine Bow town council meeting, Mayor George asked for a motion to renew the contract with On Time Sports for high school jersey advertising. No member of the governing body made a motion and the matter died.
