Contrary to what some may have heard, the City of Rawlins has no plans to remove its antelope logo at this time.
In January of 2011, Rawlins Downtown Development Authority Mainstreet hired Greenville, South Carolina marketing firm Arnett Muldrow to design a cohesive set of colors and fonts to be used throughout the city.
The staff at Arnett Muldrow recommended all Rawlins organizations adhere to a four-color scheme consisting of Rawlins Red, a blue used by the city in the past, sagebrush green, and yellow for vibrancy. The marketing agency also suggested that the city of Rawlins continue using the Paul Wawrzinicak designed antelope logo.
Wawrzinicak was a Rawlins city employee from 1982 until 2002. It’s unclear just how long Rawlins has been using Wawrzinicak’s design as its official logo, but it’s safe to say that it’s been in use for decades.
At the September 17th Rawlins city council meeting, Councilman Bruce Seilaff said Ward One residents were upset that the city was considering dropping the antelope from its official logo.
Councilman Seilaff said despite what people may have heard on Bigfoot99, the city has no intention of changing the pronghorn design.
Councilman Seilaff was referring to a letter written by a Bigfoot99 listener who mentioned that Rawlins may be considering changing its logo. The letter was sent to Bigfoot99 in response to a story in which a Carbon County Visitors Council member suggested that the town of Saratoga change its 97-year-old motto, Where the Trout Leap in Main Street.
Confusion over the Rawlins pronghorn logo may also stem from the Why Rawlins campaign. In July of 2022, Rawlins residents were presented with a survey asking for ways to encourage sustainable growth and attract tourists to the city. Changing the logo was one of the suggestions that came out of the survey, but a lack of staffing caused the Why Rawlins campaign to end in August of 2022.
Despite what the listener’s letter may have said, Bigfoot99 did not report that Rawlins officials are going to remove the pronghorn drawing from its official city logo.
