In Wyoming football, something’s got to give. Still looking for their second win of the season, the Cowboys will mix things up at the quarterback position in Saturday’s matchup with Utah State.

After a 1-and-6 start to the season, somebody’s job has got to be on the line. For the Cowboys, it’s the quarterback.

Both Evan Svoboda and Kaden Anderson will see action in the first quarter against the Aggies this week. Head Coach Jay Sawvel revealed the plan Monday.

Svoboda has shown flashes of brilliance of this season. At times, the Wyoming offense has clicked with certainty. Other times, the Cowboys have sputtered and crashed. Standing on the sidelines, here’s how Sawvel has seen the ebb and flow.

The 6′-5″, 245-pound Svoboda came into the season as the starting quarterback. He has completed less than half of his passes, 47.7 percent. He has also thrown six interceptions. According to the numbers Svoboda has put up, he’s at the bottom of the pack for college quarterbacks.

Anderson has spelled Svoboda in five games this season, completing 13-of-23 balls for 195 yards and two touchdowns. The redshirt freshman hit John Michael Gyllenborg for a 63-yard touchdown in the closing seconds of Saturday’s loss to San Jose State. Anderson was also intercepted twice after substituting for Svoboda.

“Bridger’s Battle,” Wyoming versus Utah, kicks off at 5 p.m. Saturday inside War Memorial Stadium between two 1-and-6 teams that are looking to improve.
